Managing the Discomforts of Pregnancy Through Nutrition

Find out why you might be experiencing certain problems and use the following suggestions to prevent or minimize the discomforts that may accompany your pregnancy.

Managing the Discomforts of Pregnancy Through Nutrition

Many of the discomforts of pregnancy relate to what you eat, and range from occasional nausea to more serious conditions, such as elevated blood pressure. Find out why you might be experiencing certain problems and use the following suggestions to prevent or minimize the discomforts that may accompany your pregnancy. Of course, you'll also want to discuss any discomforts or concerns with your health care provider.

Morning Sickness
What is it: "Morning sickness" runs the gamut. Some women have mild nausea, while others experience persistent vomiting that puts them at risk for dehydration and weight loss. "Morning sickness" can occur at any time of the day and often subsides after the first trimester, but some women experience nausea throughout their pregnancy.

What to do about it: Let your health care provider know if you vomit two or more times daily. But, if morning sickness is more of an irritation than a health threat, try these tips:

Avoid offensive smells, since they can trigger nausea.
Figure out what foods or beverages ease your nausea, and eat them. Even if they are soda and snack chips, they are better than nothing at all.
Keep your bedroom window cracked at least one to two inches when sleeping, provided noise or safety are not an issue. Stale bedroom air can set off nausea.
Get enough fluids. If you're nauseated, try to drink liquids that you can tolerate to help keep you hydrated. When you vomit, fluid loss occurs, and fluids must be replaced. If vomiting is severe and prolonged, hospitalization may be required to treat dehydration.
Don't allow yourself to get too hungry. Keeping food in your stomach with small snacks seems to keep nausea at bay for many women.

Heartburn
What is it: Heartburn has nothing to do with your heart and everything to do with your stomach and esophagus. That irritation and sour taste in your mouth comes from highly acidic stomach juices spilling into your esophagus.

What to do about it: One or more of these strategies may ease your heartburn symptoms.

Don't lay down right after eating since this can aggravate heartburn.
Sleep with your head slightly elevated to decrease acid back up.
Try eating frequent, small meals, especially in the third trimester.
Avoid known irritants, including caffeine, chocolate, and highly-seasoned foods, and any other food that bothers you.
Ask your health care provider about taking antacids.

Constipation
What is it: Infrequent stools or hard, dry stools.

What to do about it:

Keep taking prescribed supplements.
Include high fiber foods in your daily food choices. Aim for 20 to 35 grams of fiber daily.
Drink at least 64 ounces (8 cups) of caffeine-free fluids daily to enhance fiber's laxative effects.
Get regular physical activity, which stimulates your digestive tract, to promote regular bowel movements.
If constipation persists, ask your health care provider if you can divide your iron dose during the day or take the supplement with food.

Hemorrhoids

What they are: Dilated, engorged veins surrounding the rectum. They cause itching and sometimes, severe pain.

What to do about them:

Prevent constipation by following the tips above.
Include plenty of fiber and fluids to keep your stools soft.
If you have a severe case, ask you health care provider about treatment.

Swelling
What is it: Extra water held in and around your cells.

What to do about it:

It may sound funny, but drink more water.
Don't restrict your sodium intake.
Elevate your feet whenever possible. Avoid standing for long periods.
Consult your health care provider if swelling seems excessive.

Food Aversions
What they are: Quite suddenly, you can't stand the sight or smell of a certain food. It may even be a food that you once loved and ate regularly.

What to do about them:

Don't be concerned, unless you can't stomach an entire food group.
If possible, leave the cooking to someone else and stay away from food preparation areas.
Try eating foods cold or at room temperature since the aroma will be minimized.
Consult a registered dietician for a healthy food plan if you find that you're not eating a variety of foods.

Happiness:
Accept These 2 Facts & Be Happy Forever
By Kelly Price

There are two facts that if you accept them you can achieve happiness.

In fact anyone can be happy – Happiness is a choice - you are not born happy, just as you are not born sad.

You have to decide which you want to be and accepting thee two facts below will help you.

1) Accept What You Have

You may look at someone and want to be as good looking as them, or as rich as them but fact is you may not be and will never be.

Life is not fair as we all know and in our lives we all encounter situations where we feel we are hard done by.

The fact is you can’t do anything about it.

You need to accept what you have and make the best of it.

It maybe a cliché but there is always someone worse off than you.

When you think you’re hard done by, think of the millions of people around the world who have a far worse life than you, if you read a paper on any day you will find them.

From children born with aids into extreme poverty, to people who have illnesses that make us wonder how they cope at all.

A good example of a person accepting their lot was the actor Christopher Reeve.

He had it all -wealth, fame, looks and a loving family but suffered horrific injuries in a horse riding accident that, left him paralyzed from the waist down.

Dip he get depressed?

Did he simply sit back and say life’s not fair?

No he didn’t - he got on with life, set himself targets and set out to prove that he could walk again and inspire others with his efforts.

He never achieved his aim, but found a new purpose in life by helping others and trying to achieve his aim and felt gratitude for the love of his family and others around him.

So when you feel a bit depressed and think life’s not fair think of Christopher Reeve and the countless millions of people around the world that remain happy and are in a far worse position than you.

2) Do Things to Make You Happy

There are certain things we can all do, with a bit of motivation to make us happy.

While you have to accept certain things in life others are within your reach and can make you happier.

Get motivated and think what can I achieve?

This is different to what you may want to achieve, so be realistic.

The fact is everyone can do things to make themselves happy if their motivated.

They may be simple things like, changing your job, taking up a sport, or just simply being good to people around you.

You may find that a simple change such as seeing good in other people and being nice to others makes a dramatic difference to your life.

By being nice to others, you will find they are nice to you and this can open up all sorts of opportunities to make your life better.

In fact loving and being loved, is perhaps one of the simplest ways to achieve happiness.

Being happy is simple:

Accept what you have
and make the best of it!

Achieving happiness
really is that simple!

in the world we live ...where we call home.

When we are growing up how do we see ourselves in others opinions or actions.
How do we fit in and be accepted by our peers ?
What if we are not chosen by the popular cliques cause we are different.
What if we are teased and tormented so much we stop trying.
What if we give up on life and on people early in life?
What if you met someone whose life you can only wonder how difficult it is
for them to want to reach out over the globe to someone they have
never met before except by online contact.
What if I am the only person this person feels a connection with,
and why you ask ..I was told that I care about her.
This young person whose life I am just learning as she slowly opens
up and is able to chat with me about her young life..
That has seen so many hardships and unspeakable crulety.
That what she so much craves for is someone to care about her.
She said today she feels so bad inside as she was being teased and
tormented and called nasty names, she wanted to die.
I feel each day this young lady puts on a brave face as she wants
to be a good student and be successfull in her studies.
Someone called this girl fat and ugly and useless, she felt it deep.
She is someone that weighs all of 95 lbs and about 5 ft 4. She
says she wears a size 4 , so how can she be fat.
She tells me she feels so ugly , I told her good big hugs that
as a Mother and Nurse that I cared .
She said that she hurt so bad she was dizzy and what was wrong.
I diagnosed from what she was telling me she had an
infection and need to see a doctor, right away.
Her comment , I cant leave school , I have classes.
Promised before I left our chats to visit the Hosptial.
Our last message of the day, I wish I had a mum like you .
You care about me.
You can make a difference , One person at a time.
Reach out and touch someone.
Connect and take the time with others.
